During Last Week of Early Voting, Ossoff Highlights Youth Turnout is Up 54% in Early Vote Numbers

Sen. Ossoff: “Let me share with you some things I hope will give you some hope. We are already shattering all-time records for youth turnout in a midterm election in the state of Georgia. And that is the work that you all are doing […] When you go out there and you knock on these doors and you have these conversations with your neighbors, you’re taking part in history.”

Atlanta, Ga. — Today, nearly one week from election day, Senator Jon Ossoff encouraged Georgians to get out to vote during the last week of early voting and highlighted high youth turnout as Black and young voters “are heading to the polls at a significantly faster clip than during the last midterm election,” according to new reporting from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The AJC reporting outlines that “early in-person voting among Black Georgians is up 33% compared with the first nine days of voting in 2022, while turnout among voters under 30 has jumped 54%. Among young Black voters, the increase is an eye-popping 80%.”

The AJC’s reporting follows a new poll that shows Ossoff’s strength with a high approval rating of 55% including strong support from independents, even after Republicans have spent millions of dollars on TV and digital ads targeting him.

Earlier this year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Democratic Party of Georgia has built huge organizational strength under Ossoff’s leadership, having started the coordinated campaign earlier than ever before.

As part of today’s event in Atlanta, Sen. Ossoff, gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear met with volunteers before sending them off to knock doors for Democrats up and down the ballot.

Sen. Ossoff: “We are already seeing that the people’s response is massive and determined and defiant. […] You’re taking part in history by going out there and talking to your friends and to your neighbors. See, some people just happen to live at times and in places where what we do matters more. And this year, once again in Georgia, that’s us. What a privilege it is for all of us to live in the pivotal battleground state at this pivotal moment in our history. What we do for these next eight days will change the course of Georgia’s history – will change the course of American history. And once again, the whole country is looking to us here in Georgia to see what we stand for. Are you all ready to make a difference?”
